Israel is a country of Hebrew and Arabic
and is officially known as the State of Israel. This is a
country that has developed in the Western Asia area located
right on the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea. The State of
Israel has a historical meaning and religious roots from the
Biblical Land of Israel which is a part of Judaism since the
ancient period. The Prime Minister in Israel acts as the head of
government along with the Knesset acts as Israel's legislative
body. The country's capital is Jerusalem along with the seat of
government and the largest city in Israel. The main financial
city however, is Tel Aviv. The name Israel has meant, in a
religious meaning, Land of Israel and the entire Jewish nation
for more than three thousands years. The country of Israel is
about the size of New Jersey in comparison.
The State of Israel was first
anticipated in 1948 with over 50 years of effort put into
establishing a homeland for Jews. These attempts of creating
this homeland was initiated by Theodore Herzl who was the
founder of the Zionist movement. In June of 1967 Israel started
an attack on Egypt, Jordan, and Syria due to the response of the
Egyptian President's withdrawal of UN peacekeepers that come
from the Sinai Peninsula.
It is due to the Middle East Peace Process that
the tourism has grown and still continues to grow. There are
visitors that flee to Israel from all over the world and it has
helped that whole entire region's economy along the way. When
tourist come to Israel they get the chance to experience an
all-encompassing cultural, adventurous, and sometimes even spiritual
vacation. Just in 1994 there were about 2.17 million visitors in
Israel who spent a grand amount of 12.35 billion dollars which is
great for the country.

Things to do and see in Israel
The Dome of the Rock is located in central
Jerusalem and there is no way of taking a picture without it being
in the picture. The golden dome is very hard not to see when in the
area. It can actually be seen from all corners of the Old City
Jerusalem. The Dome of the Rock was built in 688 by a person named
Caliph Abd al-Malik and it is said that the dome was placed on the
same site where the Prophet Muhammad went to heaven to pray with the
other saints and prophets. This Dome of the Rock is one of the
holiest site in Israel coming after Mecca and Medina. This is also
one of the most impressive sites in Jerusalem, it is modeled after
the domes of the Hagia Sophia and the Holy Sepulchre. The outside
has beautiful green and blue tiles and different colored marble and
gold gilding on the interior.
The Mount of Olives is located in the
eastern part of Jerusalem and is usually the number one stop for
those who love to explore churches. This small hill is filled
with olive trees and cypresses and has a quiet road that strolls
up the side passing churches along the way. Once at the top
there is a beautiful view of Jerusalem. This is a very tranquil
trip and is great for any Christian pilgrim. One of the churches
on the mount is called the Church of All Nations and it has been
built from just donations that came from countries all over
world. It is said that there are eight gnarled old olive trees
in the grove that are still standing since the days of Christ.
Higher on up the mountain there are many other churches such as
the Church of Mary Magdalene and the Sanctuary of Dominus Flevit.
The Dead Sea is by far one of the most
attractive places to visit while in Israel. It is not only fun
but relaxes the body and does good things for your skin. The
Dead Sea is said to be the lowest point on earth being 417
meters below sea level. There is more water that evaporates from
how much water flows into the lake which makes this the place
for the highest concentration of salt in the world. The reason
it is called the Dead Sea is because there is nothing living in
the waters due to all of the salt, but this same salt that
creatures can not live in also heals ailing visitors that come
on a regular basis. The Dead Sea has also been called "the
lowest health spa in the world." The healing aspects of the Dead
Sea come from the salts and minerals that are very beneficial to
the body.
